Error Guessing
A test design technique where the experience of the tester is used to anticipate what defects might be present in the component or system under test as a result of errors made, and to design tests specifically to expose them.
Error Guessing is the art of guessing where errors can be hidden.
Usually error guessing is followed after more formal testing technique have been applied.

Error Guessing comes under Dynamic testing Techniques. It is totally based on the experience of that testers capability.
But error guessing should not be the only thing for testing a specific project, it mostly done after the formal techniques been covered. Suppose a specific tester have done a particular complex module earlier for few times so he/she might know all the flaws of that module.so here the real experience counts.
many hidden bugs can be get exposed with this approach.
Thanks ,

Hi All,
Error Guessing:
It is a experienced based technique. In this technique the testers apply only the past experience .In this type of technique no need for documentation that is why it is complement to formal techniques. In this technique the tester able to give a pin-point weakness of the system. This technique is generally applied after the formal techniques. It is type of understanding of the tester from his past experience. There is no rule for error guessing. This technique helps the testers to detect the defect efficiently.
Thanks

Hi,
Error Guessing can be experience based technique or in-experience based technique. But it is more effective if is done by an experienced tester rather than a new tester.
It is done after all the formal techniques in order to complement it well.
From the past experience of working with a similar kind of project, the tester is able to guess very well about where errors can be. So the name "Error Guessing".
