oracleobsessed is on a distinguished road
tablespaces are logical, from nowhere in ur operating system will you find these.
U can consider these as logical containers for ur oracle datafiles.

Once you login to database as sys user and query V$tablespace or dba_tablespaces u will find that there are couple of tablespaces.
On querying dba_data_files you will find realted datafiles held in each tablespace. Tablespaces are thus sized adding, deleting or resizing datafiles.
Datafiles holds ralated segments (or u may think of tables)
segments hold related extents (or u may think or tables rows)
extents hold continious blocks (that u can consider as fields)
and block is the smallest storage allocation unit for oracle...may contain a hundred of rows depending on the block size chosen.

hth!
