Router Problem

An average router is set up for home use. A cable is connected from the router to my PC (ethernet jack). Windows can access the internet. How to configure linux to get online the same way as windows?

Before the router setup, a modem was used to connect the PC to the internet and used a PPPoe client. The router will now be the one to manage the PPPoe. Is this correct?
