Classic Answer needed on question regarding salary

    Hi,
My friend had his technical interveiew and at last he was questioned by the interviewer as what salary was he expecting for that position. He answered nnegotiable and came. He asked me whether the way he answered is correct.I was also confused about this point. It would be nice if someone could give a classic answer for this question.

Nice point given there by Ashley. You are not getting an information from personal knowledge but from the facts of the company.

Plus, you can add that to your research before going for an interview. Try to compare also the normal salary of the job you are applying for. This questions are critical for what you want to have as a salary when you are working already. Giving a low salary answer might get you the job but you may not enjoy the salary on the pay date. While asking a high salary will really be negative point and you might not get the job instead.

It pays to research about the company and what they can offer. Sometimes you can give a salary range just to play safe. Or, you can say, as per company policy and standards, perhaps that would be good also.

I find the most effective way to address this question is to ensure they don't ask it. Be pro-actve and take the initiative. Generally they save this sort of question for near the end of the interview, so when they ask: "do you have any questions", or if you see an opportunity to raise it before this point, simply ask in a positive manner, here's an example:

"I'm really excited about this position because it suits my skill set and experience perfectly. However I do have a few questions about the company as I'm interested to learn a few more specifics."

They will almost certainly let you proceed with your "few" questions and of course one of those should be "What is the remuneration package for this position"

Of course you'll need to have some other questions ready, and preferably thoughful and considered ones.
