About api notes

Hi,
I need some documentation about how and where to use api's.
can any one provide me the same

Api are packages built in by oracle and supplied along with the oracle Applications ERP packages.These api contains procedure which performs some specific task.so to perform a task (i.e:-releasing batches,allocating quantity to the batches etc)by running a program(i.e:-Not from oracle APPS screen)this is how some task which can be performed through front end can be carried out to backend. by calling this APIs.
