can any body pl.explain the sentence why "testing can never show the absence of any defects"?

The statement as per Dijkstra's criticism is Program testing can be used to show the presence of bugs, but never to show their absence. This means any amount of testing represents only a small sampling of all possible computations and is therefore never adequate to assure the expected behavior of the program under all possible conditions.
