PeopleSoft Architects are responsible for planning, leading and performing all aspects of the technical PeopleSoft infrastructure, including instance or databases, application servers and process schedulers, patches, upgrades and modification planning and implementation, migration and propagation, infrastructure stability and system integrity.

Some of the vital role played by role played by PeopleSoft Architects in a project are defining database backup strategy and coordinating with Data Base Administrator (DBA), defining and maintaining file server directories, Creating and maintaining web domains, PeopleSoft application servers and process scheduler domains.

They must be strong in the following domains namely PeopleSoft Internet Architecture and application deployment architecture, project estimation, scheduling and management techniques, TCP/IP tools and facilities (FTP, Telnet, etc.), LAN architecture, PeopleSoft tools including Application Designer, People Code, Application Engine and SQL, PeopleSoft integration technologies including Application Messaging, the File Utility, Component Interfaces, and PeopleSoft Integration Broker and web server fundamentals.
