Away Mode is a Windows Vista feature that is designed for media PC scenarios. Even while the system is actually operational and processing background media tasks such as recording television content or streaming media to other devices away Mode enables the Windows Vista PC to appear off to the user.

In away mode the system appears to the user as being shut down by which the monitor appears to be switched off, sound or audio is muted, and there would be no effect of moving the mouse or typing on the keyboard. But even though the system appears as shut down the system would be fully operational no human interaction that is processing taking place uninterrupted by user. This is a unique state which is a new feature of Windows Vista.
