About Basics

Hi,
I know a little bit about computers, but am in a lot of confusion. there are so many things like java, c++, c#, crystal reports, javascript, .net, linux,
GNU, opensource, VB, VB.net, signon, AS400, Tcl, perl, oracle, jdbc, Windows, Unix, etc, etc., teminologies. Can please someone categorize these basics as to what each language does or where they are used and any other related things like new versions or information and grouping like (if javascript and VBscript fall under same category, but for different OS or something), i.e a few lines about each basic tems, can anyone do this please?.........
