Reason for Choosing the Language

I have medium knowledge in some of the OOPS languages. I want to know the reasons for some people preferring C++ over other OO languages. If members could share their ideas on this concept it would help us to know the advantages of using this language and could help us get the idea of when should one prefer the language over other?
