hi there,
to start with, i am working as a QA Analyst or lets say a Tester in one of the financial comapnies in virginia.. and to be frank i never found myself so bored anytime in my life..with this job..man,.its really a job of dumb ppl who doesn't wish to face challenges and definitely does not want to stress their minds..ok leave all this. where do i start to get into development. now dont ask me. why do i want to go for Dot Net and why not Java. please anyone guide me on what to learn and which books to follow and how to practive to get a job as a dot net developer. BTW I have already installed visual Studio in my computer. Please guide me what to learn, c# or VB or ASP ..etc.,, and where to start..and what should be my approach to get a job as a developer. ofcourse with madeup resumes of enough experience, Will be very thankful to all your advices. and help. It all depnds on individuals oinclination. if you feel reading english like language and writting programms, then you can think of MS technology. Again remember that learning any platform is not like reading book. Both technologies are equally good to learn and understand.
I would recommand J2EE/Java for a person who have aready worked in IT. Once you learn Core java then getting in to J2EE is not that difficult where as for .Net, industry demands person should know almost everything...asp,vb,jscript,vbscript,asp.net,vb.net,c#,web service etc. Best of luck and welcome to the world of never ending learning cycle :

i think that you would do well to sign up at your community college and see how you are at one quarter of programming. if you pass the mustard there, perhaps you would like to go further and be able to possibly get a beginning job.
