Future of Java and .NET
Hi friends,
I would like to share my ideas on the future of Java and .NET Java: Is the most booming technology right now in the software market. Is good for atleast 3 years down the road. But you need to update your skills in Java and J2EE. For eg, -Now a days all projects are migrating to struts framework as it is opensource. -New development projects are developing using struts framework. -Design patterns are using in/between various tiers. Update your skills, when the newer version comes in the market. For eg, EJB 1.1 ---> EJB 2.0 ---> now it is EJB 2.1 Try to learn what are new in EJB 2.1 Similarly for other J2EE technologies. So Keep learning the newer things. You will be in safe position for another 3 years atleast. When coming to webservers, application servers, IDE\'s; we have so many - websphere, weblogic, jboss, iplanet, etc.. If you are good in one among these, then it is almost same type of work in others also. So, just update your development env. skills. In nearby future, almost all the clients will go for Websphere instead of Weblogic. .NET The future is good atleast another 2 years. The market for .NET is good, some times average, i can say : In a 3 months period, the market will be dull for one month on average. Learn the new things coming in .NET If you are comfortable to work with ASP.NET, VB.NET, C# then you will in safe position for another 2 years atleast. 7/27/04 Present Market for Java/J2EE = Excellent. Present Market for .NET = Above Average. Best of Luck. |

As for me, every programming language has its own time. For example, there was a time when Pascal was very popular(at least in my school when I was in high school). But now, Pascal is rarely heard of.
Java and .NET will have a long way to go but there will come a time there era will end when new and more powerful yet more flexible programs will be available. As for my prediction, Java and .NET will still be used for many years more for they are mostly used in our technology today. As long as there will be no better program than Java, it will always be used in our cellphones. .NET however is still the preferred use of programmers nowadays because of its flexbility and object-oriented programming. Until there is no better programming languages than Java and .NET, those 2 will prevail in the IT market. |

Although .Net and Java are really in much use today, there are many new programs that are going out today and they are competing in the IT market. I think what matters most in the programming languages is its usability and flexibility to do the job. At school, my professor told us that C language is very flexible that's why its still very much used today.
