Boost Your Vocabulary

Using a rich vocabulary is absolutely beneficial in today’s competitive environment. Not only does a rich vocabulary express your ideas more efficiently, it makes other around you take notice that you are intelligent and articulate.you are an Executive, Public Servant or a Customer Service Rep, an important part of your job icommunication. Many of us fall into a groove of using words that we have grown accustomed to using over the years. Our language patterns usually depend on our job, social contacts or hobbies we participate in.
There are few strategies for boosting your vocabulary:
•Read more, whether it is magazine, journals, or books it is
important to read. Try reading books from a variety of different authors and subjects. This will enhance your exposure to how language is used
•Try learning a few beneficial words each day. Write down a word that you normally use daily and try to replace it with something a little different or more articulate.
•Have conversations with people outside your circle. Many times we talk the way others around us talk.
•For people who really want to boost their vocabulary, there are programs available that have developed easy and effective ways to learning words and language patterns.
So don’t stick to the same words, boost your vocabulary and you’ll probably be admired by others.

Word power really improves our communication skills. Saying the exact word for the specific talk will make the conversation more understandable. I just talked with my girlfriend last night. At first we had a nice conversation but after an hour, we had an argument already. In the end, we just had a misunderstanding of just one word. The word was respect. I was thinking of something while she was thinking the other thing.

Anyway, if ever there are words that you have heard the first time, better write them down and then look at the dictionary what does it mean when you are at home already. This is another way of adding to your vocabulary.

Reading is a good way of improving our vocabulary. Everytime I see a new word from the readings that I have done, I always look for it in the dictionary or thesaurus. That way, I could really improve on my vocabularies and add new words to it.

This is a thread which is very applicable to me. I have been thinking of learning new vocabularies because it is very useful. Besides, I like to learn how to write in blogs and vocabulary words are very necessary. I hope somebody can give a link as to where I can start working in my vocabulary. Also, I think, forum posting also helps in developing our vocabulary as you are able to learn from other posters and sometimes you tend to be a writer.

I actually had the opportunity (happenstance) to listen in on a day's worth of interviews last weekend. Most of the potentials were at a loss for words halfway through. I couldn't believe it was for a position as a writer. Honestly, it isn't hard to pick up a dictionary now and then.

I sort of enjoy it, but maybe that's just me.

I find that some of the online dictionaries can be very useful, especially to help you pronounce words correctly. If you mispronounce words it will undermine all your efforts and make you look less educated and less intelligent rather than more so.

Therefore I adjure you all to practice these new words, to use pronunciation keys and to utilise online resources that provide audio examples such as this:

After you follow that link, just click on the little speaker symbol to hear the correct pronunciation. Meant to put that in my last post!
