add your contacts to a marketing list, create the campaign against the
marketing list then add an activity as your marketing activity. CRM will
generate the activities for you.

Direct Email in Campaign?

How do I send Direct Email to large lists in a campaign? It seems as if I
have to send an individual email to each activity. This means I have about
3500 activities to send, how am I supposed to deal with that???

Re: Direct Email in Campaign?

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. However, your answer is simply stating my question.
I create a campaign and 3500 activities are created. However, I have to send
the same email to all 3500 using a precreated template. I now have to go
through each activity one by one. Going through 3,428 activities one by one
will take a very long time.

I would love to use the campaign module to track success rates, but because
it doesn't offer bulk email capabilities (neither does marketing lists), I'm
forced to use an alternative tool other then CRM.....

Any thoughts John?

Re: Direct Email in Campaign?

ok heres the confusion...why are you not making the marketing campaign an
email? I guess I assume you want a maketing campaign where you send more
than 1 activity to each contact in the list?

Re: Direct Email in Campaign?

why do you think crm does not offer bulk email - if you create a marketing
campaign and assign a list of contacts you can add an email activity and
send an email out in one go no matter how many you want to send out

also in a campaign you can have multiple activities assigned

Re: Direct Email in Campaign?

I found the same problem.
You can create a marketing campaign, add a targeted marketing list, create a
campaign activity. Select email, fill in the rest of the details, save the
activity. Next when you click 'Distribute activity' you can enter the
dialog, after you click finish Crm creates the email activity for each
member of the targeted marketing lists. However all the messages have status
reason 'Draft'. Apperantly there is no way to automatically send all the
messages to the users (Actually do the bulk mailing).

Is there any way Crm allows for this John?

Re: Direct Email in Campaign?

Hi John,

Yes, I understand your process for setting up a campaign. Here is the
process I followed, it's almost identical to what you said. I imported a
list of companies as "Leads". I then created a marketing list based on
certain criteria, such as product interest. I then created an email campaign
with the marketing list and hit "Distribute Campaign" just as you mentioned.
The problem is that it doesn't automatically SEND the emails. It is nice
because it creates the activities, but it does not actually SEND the emails.
So now, I have to send 3500 emails ONE by ONE!!!! I will not be able to use
the campaign functionality because of this reason. I will not be able to use
the Marketing List function either. The only way to send bulk email is on
the Lead list which does not provide filter capabilities.

I recommend MS CRM add a bulk email option to "Marketing List" or figure out
a way to automatically send emails out of a campaign. Is there a work around
for my issue or is it "tough luck"?
