I want to develop a web based application that retrieves my company’s catalog from SQL server 2000 database. The catalog information is changed once a day by the operations department through a Windows Form application, I want to know which object I can use so that the object uses the fewest resources to send the catalog information to the web browser which helps me to achieve performance in my application.

You can make use of SqlDataReader to achieve your purpose stated in your query above. This is because your requirement is to open a connection on the server and send the line by line output to browser or client. For achieving this you can open the DataReader and proceed till the end of data set to carry out the task and close the DataReader and Sqlconnection objects alone after the process. This would help you to achieve the stated purpose namely to send the catalog information to the web browser with fewest resources.
