Want to know about Components in TableSpace
I have a very little knowledge about Tablespace. I actually want to know what is the tablespace made of. Is it made of Log files, or is it made of Segments or is it made of Control Files or what?

tablespaces are logical, from nowhere in ur operating system will you find these.
U can consider these as logical containers for ur oracle datafiles. Once you login to database as sys user and query V$tablespace or dba_tablespaces u will find that there are couple of tablespaces. On querying dba_data_files you will find realted datafiles held in each tablespace. Tablespaces are thus sized adding, deleting or resizing datafiles. Datafiles holds ralated segments (or u may think of tables) segments hold related extents (or u may think or tables rows) extents hold continious blocks (that u can consider as fields) and block is the smallest storage allocation unit for oracle...may contain a hundred of rows depending on the block size chosen. hth! |
