Re:Oracle 8i Installation Problems

Hello,

The problem is not due to Windows XP but due to your pentium 4 chip. Copy the contents of the 8i CD to your HD then rename each copy of symcjit.dll archives to symcjit.dll.old. Then start the installation by running setup.exe.

Enjoy,

Admin.

Re:Oracle 8i Installation Problems

If you have an Intel Pentium 4 processor, proceed below.

1. Create a directory under <HDL:\\> called oracle_temp to hold the Oracle 8i Personal Edition.
2. copy the entire folder into the oracle_temp folder.
3. Delete all occurrences of symcjit.dll (There will be 2). These files are located:
• <HDL:\\>oracle_temp\\stage\\Components\\oracle.omb.jdk\\1.1.8\\1\\DataFiles\\Expand
ed\\jdk118_nt\\bin
• <HDL:\\>\\oracle_temp\\stage\\Components\\oracle.swd.jre\\1.1.7.30\\1\\DataFiles\\Expa
nded\\jre\\win32\\bin
4. Run setup.exe located <HDL:\\> oracle_temp.

Note: <HDL:\\> = hard drive letter

Re:Oracle 8i Installation Problems

Hi,

I was unable to install oracle 8i on windows. After I click on setup nothing displays. Then I tried changing syncjit.dll to symcjit.old as you suggested. This installs Oracle but system starts giving error: java.exe has generated errors . And also while installation i get a warning symcjit not found.

Please help me.
Thanks.

Re:Oracle 8i Installation Problems

What\'s the os and system you are trying to install, this dll renaming is needed only on pentium 4.

Re:Oracle 8i Installation Problems

Here is the solution for your Java.exe errors:

Edit the jserv.conf file accordingly to disable JSERV from starting up.
Old parameter -> ApJServManual off
New parameter -> ApJServManual on

This is not required for Enterprise Manager Browser functionality and is the cause of the problem.

Also make sure you have the latest JRE.
