Measuring the benefits of patterns?

Hi all,

Has anyone ever come across any articles or papers which dealt with
*measuring* the effect of using software design patterns (instead of
classical approaches) on quality factors, such re-usability, maintainability
or testability? I'm interested in knowing if the benefits of using patterns
has been demonstrated in any measurable way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

R.
