CALL FOR CHAPTERS: OO Design Knowledge.
CALL FOR CHAPTERS
Submission Deadline: December 1st, 2004 Object-Oriented Design Knowledge: Principles, Heuristics, Best Practices, etc. A book edited by Javier Garzás and Mario Piattini In order to establish itself as a branch of engineering, a profession must understand its accumulated knowledge. In this regard, software engineering has advanced greatly in recent years, but it still suffers from the lack of a structured classification of its knowledge. In Object – Oriented Design (OOD) Knowledge, design patterns are the most popular example of accumulated knowledge, but other elements of knowledge exist such as Principles, Heuristics, Best Practices, Bad Smells, Refactorings, etc. But the differences between these elements are not clear. Many concern a single concept with different names, while others on occasions do not contain knowledge gained from experience, and still others are simply vague concepts. This confusion leads to a less efficient use of object-oriented design knowledge, so concepts such as principles or heuristics are still unknown to some software engineers, few of whom understand completely their goals or relationships This book will collect real experience and practical advices, together with research solutions, to the problem of classify and use different kinds of object-oriented design knowledge. Recommended topics include but are not limited to the following: -. OOD Patterns, Principles, Heuristics, Best Practices, Bad Smells, Refactorings or similar. -. Empirical Studies on OOD Knowledge. -. Methods and Metrics related to OOD Knowledge. -. Industrial Experiences with OOD Knowledge. -. Organizational issues (policies, organizational structures, learning, team dynamics, leaderships, etc.) related to OOD Knowledge. -. Modelling languages related to OOD Knowledge. -. Development processes and frameworks based on the use of OOD Knowledge. -. CASE tools that support OOD Knowledge. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 1st, 2004, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2004 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter organizational guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 15th, 2005. All submitted chapters will be reviewed by at least two reviewers on a blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published by Idea Group Inc.
