All I know is that 18,000 years in the future they probably won't be called "servers" anymore.

SQL Server 2005 is Microsoft's latest commercial database engine. It is a piece of software that runs on a windows operating system such as Windows 2003 server. It competes with Oracle, DB2, and other database management systems in the marketplace. SQL Server 2005 is an upgrade from Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and contains new architecture and features. The most important of which may be support for Common Language Runtime (CLR), which allows compiled .NET code to run on the SQL server.
