Question Regarding Datasets: XSD, XML and other Fun Stuff. Using VS 2005

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong, but I'll explain my issue:

I'm trying to create an application that can save data to ITSELF (not talk to a server database). Do datasets behave this way?

Furthermore, I want to add the ability to send data to a database when the user clicks a "sync" button (or something like that).

I'm VERY new to Windows applications, as I've dealt only with .asp applications in my career.

Thank you VERY much to everyone that contributes to my much-anticipated solution!!!
