Specific Duties of a Computer Manager

There are many specific duties which fall within the realm of the computer manager job title. One of the main duties of the computer manager is to oversee the work of subordinates under their control. This individual is responsible for hiring, training and firing of individuals as well as aiding them in their jobs each step of the way. A computer manager will often also oversee the work schedule and sometimes the payroll as well. How great or minimal the duties of a computer manager may be will all depend on the company or corporation with which the computer manager works.

A computer manager is also the main contact for outside entities as well as higher up officials within the company or corporation. Since the computer manager is essentially in charge of the IT department, he/she will be the communicator of the department. If questions need to be answered or someone needs the help of a computer technician, the computer manager will be contacted.

There is often a lot of paperwork involved with the position of computer manager. Whether it is operational reports, payroll or work schedules, the computer manager is usually the one who completes the paperwork as they are in the best position to do so. The amount and type of paperwork which the computer manager must complete will vary amongst different computer managers.

The computer manager is the individual who often has to make the presentations to the higher up individuals in the company or corporation. In addition, the computer manager may also be responsible for lecturing to the general public about certain computer system issues.

Placing orders for computer equipment and accessories is another specific duty that must be carried out by the computer manager. Should the department need new computers or new networking equipment, the computer manager is the one to price out the options and procure the items for the office and employees.

The computer manager does not just oversee the other employees and do paperwork the whole day. This individual will also utilize the computer systems, mainly the security systems and backup systems, to ensure that everything is in good working order and update the systems when needed to do so. This duty often pleases computer managers as it allows them to roll up their sleeves and get their hands on the computer systems.

Positive Traits for Computer Managers to Possess

The ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner is another exceptional trait for computer managers to possess. They will often have to provide guidance and lectures to their subordinates, peers, higher up officials and the general public. By possessing the ability to disseminate information in a clear-cut manner, the computer manager is getting the information across to others in an effective manner.

Computer managers should also be good team players. Since they cannot do their jobs without their subordinates and peers, it is crucial that the computer manager gets along with others and works well with others. This will help the tasks to be completed in a more effective, efficient way.

Good analytical skills are also necessary for computer managers to possess. They will usually have to review documents as well as computer systems and by having good analytical skills the computer manager will be more likely to resolve the issues than if they did not possess such skills.

A computer manager should also have wonderful organizational skills. A computer manager who has good organizational skills will find that the daily job routine goes a lot more smoothly than if they were without this type of positive attribute.

Conclusion

These are just some of the responsibilities and duties which a computer manager must undertake on a daily basis. If a computer manager enjoys their job, they may find that the daily work can be carried out more effectively than if they dread going to work each day.
