How You Should Dress For A Job Interview

While dressing appropriately for a job interview may sound like common sense, you would be surprised by the number of people who fail to do it. A recent study found that many applicants are showing up to job interviews wearing sneakers, sweatpants, and jeans.

Other people wore outfits which showed body piercings. In addition this, some people chewed gum, or came to the interview with wrinkled clothes. When you go to an interview like this, you are basically telling a potential employer not to hire you. In fact, you are wasting both your time and the time of the person who is interviewing you.

Does the way you act during an interview really have a bearing on whether or not you will be hired? The answer to this question is yes. If the person interviewing you doesn’t care how you act or dress, you shouldn’t want to work for them. Even if you are qualified for the job, an employer wants to make sure you have the personal qualities which are required to succeed. Having a lot of skill is not enough. Even if you have an advanced degrees or a lot of experience, employers will be reluctant to hire someone who can’t work with a team, has bad habits, or doesn’t dress appropriately.

While dressing correctly may not be important for some jobs, most professional, high paying jobs expect you to have a good appearance. Even if the job isn’t the best in the world, obtaining it will still allow you to keep a roof over your head. In addition to this, how will you be able to determine whether or not the interviewer will base their decision on your appearance? Unless you already know them, there is no way you can. Because of this, it is best to dress professionally at all times. If you aren’t sure about the dress code for the company, dress your best anyway. Even if you are not required to wear a suit at the job, showing up in one will send a message that you care about how you look, and this will likely translate into your work.

If you are a woman, there are a number of things you can wear which are excellent for a job interview. A business suit with a solid color is always impressive. If you choose to wear a blouse, it should be coordinated. You should only wear a small amount of jewelry. Your shoes should be professional. Black is the best color, and will match virtually anything. You will also want to make sure your hairstyle is ideal. You will want to refrain from using a large amount of make-up. While you will want to wear perfume, you should never wear too much. If you can afford it, getting a manicure can really add to your appearance.

Men will also want to wear a business suit which has a solid color. It is best to wear a long sleeve dress shirt with your suit that is white in color. The only other color that is acceptable is sky blue. Your tie should not have radical designs. It is best to choose a solid color which matches that of your suit. You should always wear dress shoes, and they should be black in color. The only other color you may want to use for your shoes is brown. The color of your shoes should match that of your suit and pants. If you are wearing a suit, you will also want to wear dress socks instead of regular socks.

Men who are going to interviews will want to make sure their nails are cut. Using too much aftershave can damage your appearance. While you will want to wear cologne, wearing too much can have a bad effect. If you have a briefcase, you will want to bring it, even if you don’t have a lot things to carry in it. Dressing correctly for a job interview is extremely important. Even if you have the skills for the job, your dress will say a lot about your personality. The last thing you want to do is fail an interview because you didn’t dress correctly even though you were qualified for the position.
