How to Control Anger

By Exforsys | on June 26, 2009 |
Anger Management

Anger is a very negative emotional response. It can be triggered by anything, anyone or anytime. This type of negative emotion is usually caused by a series of events or experiences as the person starts out disappointed and frustrated.

Eventually, the feeling of anger to others and even to oneself increases as the person who feels frustrated would usually look at the reasons on why these things happen. When that person realizes it is his fault, self-loathing could happen which is also the same reaction when the frustrated person realizes (in his or her terms) that the reason for failing is of another person’s fault.

Anger could easily turn from bad to worse as anger could solicit physical assault which could lead to serious consequences in the physical and legal aspect. It does not even matter where it happens – anger will always lead to trouble that affects not only the angry person but to everyone around him or her.

Dealing with Anger through Positive Thinking

Diffusing anger is difficult but could be done. One of the best ways to diffuse and prevent anger is to develop a positive personality. A positive personality is basically a form of thinking wherein you always see the better side of things. Instead of resigning to the fact that something has gone terribly wrong, a positive personality will look at the positive things and use them to improve the chances next time.

Positive thinking is not found in everyone. However, they can be developed by everyone who is willing to get over their negative emotions. Negative thinking could help you become critical of things but they often end up in frustration since there are too many bad things that you can think of. If you develop positive thinking, you will be able to deal with problems easily and come up with solutions.

This state of mind is not only applicable in workplaces as it helps improve productivity among employees. Families could greatly benefit from positive thinking as problems could be easily dealt as they are able to see options and solutions faster rather than fighting over the cause of the problem.

From Negative to Positive Thinking

Transferring from negative to positive thinking takes time and practice. Unfortunately, transferring from one’s outlook to another outlook is not just thinking about the positive the entire time. If you are a negative thinker, you should deal with the negative thinking and eliminate them fast. By getting rid of the thoughts that could drag you down emotionally, you’ll be able to concentrate on the positive things.

The Four Ways to Test Your Thinking and Anger

The following are the considerations you need to think of to clearly see the effects of your negative thinking and anger. This is also a good measurement if you have already achieved positive thinking and have controlled your anger.

• Look at the results – The biggest indicator of positive thinking and controlled anger is to know what you have done lately. Have been aggressive lately or have failed miserably in a project that you could have done? You will be able to gauge your disposition based on your success. Being grumpy and feeling bad about the situation will most likely get you nowhere.

• In case of failure, know the causes – Of course, a positive attitude does not give you immediate and positive results. Some things cannot just be pushed through. Take a look at some of the causes of failure and see whether you have done the best you can and easily gave up because you got frustrated easily.

• Put yourself on other’s perspective – A good measurement of your attitude towards work and family is to put yourself in other’s perspective. What could be the current feeling of your friends, family and co-workers regarding your current actions? Their perspective will provide you with an even more objective measurement if you are already been more positive and have controlled your anger.

• Your personal philosophy – What is your current motto or belief in life? This is just a simple and could even be a silly question but everyone has a belief system. Scrutinize your belief system and know if they have worked for your advantage lately.

Through positive thinking, you can easily control anger. With the help of the above mentioned measurements, you will know your development and adapt accordingly.
