Stress Management

What is Stress Management?

You may have experienced feeling like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders during times when you are dumped with problems at work, at home, or in other aspects of your life.

Once this kind of feeling starts to build up, the normal response of a person is to feel like giving up, worry or get upset. Consequently, you will literally give up in facing the situation you are in, or you will allow yourself to get too affected by the heavy feeling you are experiencing.

These things will do you no good. When you try to get out of the situation without resolving it, it is not as if you have completely escaped from it. The truth is, whatever it is that causes you to feel down and negative will be the same feeling you will get in the future from a situation you have to run away from.

Now, if you let frustration and pressure get you down, you obviously turn physically and mentally weak, and exhausted. With that kind of character you show, you become a victim of your own weaknesses.

All these things mentioned revolve around one subject and that is stress. The word is closely associated with anxiety. Stress is the onset of the feeling that you are pressured and start to get weary over someone or something. When you are stressed, the systems of the body respond to the feeling. You start to become physically weak and the mind does not function well.

Anxiety is one of the ultimate triggers of stress. When you worry about something, you become stressed and when worrying becomes too intense, anxiety would then become the greater feeling.

Life has many stresses which may come from various factors. Everything that surrounds us can be possible reasons for stress. Your family, friends, your work, the heavy traffic, unfinished projects, and many more can, in one way or another, cause stress.

You can never tell yourself that you do not feel stress at all because the glaring fact is we all go through that. Understanding how to deal with stress is a very important learning in every individual. Stress management is a vital process in recognizing the reasons for that feeling and using some techniques to manage it.

Stress Affects All Types of Individuals

Any one individual is inclined to feel stress at anytime. People of all ages and all walks of life are prone to stress. The level of stress in a person’s life highly depends on the varying elements such as physical health, the kind of personal and social relationships, the amount of responsibility and obligations in life, other people’s level of expectation, and the past experiences and the distressing occurrences.

According to some studies, people who have good personal and social relationships with others are not likely to feel stressed most of the time. On the other hand, those who lack socialization with the people around him and those who are physically weak handle more pressure and stress in life.

Positive Stress

Stress is not all a negative feeling. It is how the individual perceives the feeling to be. Stress can also be felt out of hard work, for example. Say, you felt really exhausted but productive and contented after completing a very important project at work.

The feeling of being tired produces mild stress but overall, it is still a positive feeling because of the satisfaction you get. We often mishandle stress in our lives, taking it too negatively which leads us to feel stress inappropriately in our body.

Negative Stress

Stress usually becomes a negative feeling if we allow frustrations and resentment to sink in our mind and body. If you are feeling those negativities in every nerve of your body, you are bound to feel negative stress. The worst thing is, it does not just affect our emotional balance but it may lead us to unwanted illnesses and problems with health.

In truth, the feeling of stress is normal in our day-to-day lives. It is part of living and survival. Eliminating stress because you think it was never helpful to you is impossible. Instead, what we can do is learn how to manage stress in our lives.
