Impress Your Clients through Oral Presentations

What is Oral Presentation?

When you are present at a meeting and there is a chairman conducting the event, the chairman is considered to be presenting an oral presentation. Now oral presentation can be best defined as a person proposing a speech to an audience.

Oral presentation is a common tool used in business, which it is often used in business meetings. An oral presentation can produce a significant amount of impact to the audience; if the purpose is to convince the audience then an oral presentation is used to persuade the audience. Why is oral presentations considered a useful tool and important?

The role of oral presentations

Imagine you had an idea, point, or a simple suggestion that is considered important. How are you going to express that idea, point, or suggestion to the people you wish took your thoughts into consideration? Well unfortunately you will not be able to or it would be extremely difficult, unless you present an oral presentation to the audience. Thus it is important to use oral presentations; it is without doubt a necessary tool to either convince the audience or to simply point out you thoughts.

Oral presentations can come with many factors or obstacles that can prevent them from becoming successful. One factor can be challenging is finding a topic to present or figuring out how to express the topic in a matter that will interest the audience. Another common factor is intimidation and nervousness, sometimes performing in front of a large body of people would be intimidating, causing you to be extremely nervous to the point you cannot control it.

These factors are not the only ones that come as an obstacle to perform a successful oral presentation, but no matter what factors you face, the reason for not being able to overcome these factors and obstacles is for the reason that the person is inexperienced.

Thus it is important to continually practice performing oral presentation. Though practicing is important you will want to know what keys to use in order to perform a successful oral presentation, this will allow you to be aware of what you need to practice.

How to enhance your oral presentation skills

First of all you will want to find your topic; though this can be a challenge you can still find a good topic for your oral presentation. Commence by examining the purpose to your oral presentation, for example, if you want to conduct a meeting concerning a new strategy you’ve accumulated, you may make a topic that focuses on issues such as, “A visual to a new strategy.” This is only one example of what you can use as a topic.

Your topic should definitely be based on the purpose of your oral presentation, ask yourself, What is the purpose of my oral presentation? Is it to inform? Is my oral presentation to instruct? Or is my oral presentation meant to persuade? Knowing the purpose of your oral presentation is a guide which can help you perform it successfully. Prepare yourself before you present your oral presentation, as this will allow you to notice any glitches to your presentation. If you have trouble talking in front of an audience it is suggested you practice with others, so that way you may gain confidence in yourself and reduce nervousness and intimidation. As the time goes on you will accumulate skills to perform these presentations with ease.

It is suggested to build skills by attending a college course related to business communication. When you are attending the class you will then be forced to communicate in a more organized manner, and you will want to use these skills in an oral presentation, since speaking to an audience in a more formal matter will make your presentation sound more clear and understandable.

There, in class is where you can practice talking to a big crowd, and this will certainly help you gain confidence in yourself. Another suggestion to overcome the fear of presenting an oral presentation in front of an audience is to seek a job where its field involves working with strangers. A final form of practice can be talking to older relatives and friends about a topic that involves expressing emotions and strong opinions or a discussion that may concern experiences.

Such communication helps you to accumulate skills to express yourself or perform an oral presentation. Remember that showing nervousness in front of an audience can cause the audience to feel uncomfortable, thus it is important for you try to overcome this fear since it will allow you to bring success to the table. In your oral presentation you will want to grab the audience attention, by doing so you will have the audience paying attention instead of wondering around and not listening to your important message.

In order to grab the audience attention you may want use illustrations, in some cases imagination is sometimes present to avoid listening, but in this case you are making the audience use their imagination in a positive form which is adding a visual touch to your presentation.

To mention once again, remember you want to make your audience understand your oral presentation, make sure your grammar is pronounced correctly and avoid using slang words, many people are not aware of many slang terms; try to make your oral presentation sound as formal as possible. Though gestures are great techniques to grab the audience attention, avoid using exaggerated gestures, as this can cause the audience to lose focus on what you are saying, but you want to make sure your speaking style is solid.

Become a better speaker through practice

In order to apply these useful techniques in performing a successful oral presentation, it is suggested you use a guide through your oral presentation. Human beings tend to forget things, thus it is important for you to have a set guide to base your presentation, so you will not forget or miss present important information or to stall in the middle of your presentation. Such guides can be in a written format, like for instance a proposal or an agenda.

When you write your oral presentation do not avoid writing word by word of what your are going to say, thus will interest the audience then if your oral presentation sounded as if you where reading of a book. What you may do instead is write down the important ideas or points only in a brief sentence; this will make your oral presentation sound natural. Finally you will want to prepare yourself always, for this can allow you to make any changes if necessary.
