Improve your Presentations through PowerPoint

What is a PowerPoint presentation?

First of all let’s define power point, power point is a program, a useful tool that is often used to perform a presentation. The power presentation is usually displayed in a large screen for everyone to see. The presentation will include slides that contain pictures as well as words, sometimes the slides will come in with special effects, such as sounds, and motion effects. Though a power point presentation may seem like a good strategy to bring an audience’ attention it can still be proposed incorrectly.

A poor power presentation is often due to the lack of effort put into a power point presentation since a power point presentation can be done easily, you simply add slides, decide what you want to paste on the slide, and their you have it, a power point presentation. A power point presentation can be very easy to create but because of how simple it can be done it can trigger a lack of effort put into power point presentations.

For instance, any person can create a power point project by simply adding pictures to the slides that already comes with the program and is found in the clip art folder. This is a poor power presentation because it is most like that everyone present to the presentation has seen it already.

Also, a poor power point is proposed because people over make the power point presentation with too much emphasis, this kind of power point presentation is referred as a project overdone; the meaning of overdoing the power presentation is that it contains too many effects, such as the overuse of animation in the slideshows.

It is important you avoid overdoing your power point presentation since you can cause the audience to have their focused attention on the special affects other than what is most important having the audience focused attention to the important information that is being released on your power point presentation.

Another reason for poor power point presentation is when you have a large audience and your power presentation contains sound affects, it is most likely the whole audience won’t be able to listen if you where to use a laptop.

A laptop is not a good tool to present a power point presentation not only may the audience not hear the power point presentation’s sound effects, but some of the audience may not even see the power point presentation.

Now that you’re aware of all kinds of power point presentations that are considered to be done poorly, a question comes up which is, why is it considered important to propose a good power point presentation?

The Importance of a Good Power Point Presentation

When you have a poor power point presentation you are simply wasting the audience’ time, think of all the reasons why poor power presentation are created, and consider where the pictures are used from the generic clipart folder.

The use of these pictures has obviously been seen by the audience over and over again, that’s if the person proposing the power point presentation kept pasting those pictures from the clip art folder to his or her slides in the power point presentation.

It is certain that the use of these pictures will automatically lose the audience’ interest; the audience will simply say that it’s another one of those power point presentations, signifying that it is a poor power point presentation.

By creating a poor power point presentation you send the message or impression that the audience is not considered important to you, and so it gave you the reason to create the power point presentation with a lack of effort. This is one of the reasons why you should make a more of an effort to create these power point presentations than lacking with effort simply by using pictures already installed with the power point program. Remember that you want your presentation to look as professional as possible

Once again the use of laptops is not recommended for a large audience, thus is important you avoid using them, for that way everyone can enjoy viewing the power point presentation and hearing the sound affects. The question that comes up is how can I purpose a power point presentation that will interest the audience and at the same time export the important information for the audience’ benefit?

How to create a good Power Point Presentation

When creating a power point presentation, don’t use pictures from the generic clip art, instead explore for more pictures from either the internet, or from a snapshot with your camera. This will definitely not bore the audience and will capture the audience’ eyes.

When you are searching for pictures, try to look for pictures that are relevant to the presentation’s topic. For instance if you are presenting a topic that haves to do with Sales it would be more reasonable if you include a picture that has to do with money like a dollar bill, coins, dollar sign, etc

The final Application

Take in deep consideration the useful techniques mentioned, it is without question that your power point presentation will interest the audience and at the same time release important information that will benefit the audience if you where to apply these techniques. In order to apply these techniques you to have in mind that you are presenting the power point not the slideshows. Instead visualize the power point presentation as an aid,

In other words do not present your whole presentation or message that you want the audience to consider in the power point, instead only use the power point to propose the main points. For example, referring back to the sales topic, you can highlight in your power point presentation the main topic, like for instance, "Our winning strategy to more sales!" Afterwards, make brief sentences and in bullet format about the topic, which you will want to explain with a minimum detail, this will avoid having too much information in your power point presentation.
